This is a 54 y.o. IDDM black male presents with a large callous bottom of left foot. After debridement of the callous , an ulcer was identified. Additionally, further examination of the left foot, you can see a fissure at the base of the second toe. This patient has diabetic neuropathy and didn’t even know anything was developing on the bottom of his left foot.
Additionally, patient reports he is unable to cut his toenails on both feet.
It is imperative to inform your diabetic patients to look at their feet daily, and follow up with any foot -related issues with a podiatrist.
