CARRINGTON LABORATORIES INTRODUCES DIABETIC PRODUCT LINE
IRVING, TEXAS (11/21)--Carrington Laboratories (NASDAQ: CARN) is pleased to introduce
its DiaB line of products formulated for individuals who suffer from
diabetes. The DiaB line consists of four products:
DiaBNutri is a dietary supplement in tablet form.
DiaBKlenz is a spray wound cleanser for diabetic leg
and foot ulcers.
DiaBGel is a hydrogel wound care preparation for the
management of diabetic ulcers.
DiaBCream is a routine, post-healing moisturizer
cream.
In support of the launch of the DiaB product line, announcements have
been placed in six professional journals, four medical marketing publications and one
consumer journal. Targeted were those with the greatest need to know about the DiaBproduct
line including podiatrists, physicians, nurses, physical therapists, diabetic educators
and diabetic consumers. Currently, there are eight million diagnosed diabetics in the
United States.
Approximately 1.2 million diabetics suffer with lower extremity ulcers. Carrington's
products were developed for this market segment. Carrington plans for its products to find
a market for the management of diabetic ulcers and as a post amputation management tool.
The DiaB line is marketed under an FDA 510K authorization to market. The
company believes its DiaB product line contains the first hydrogel
product specifically for the diabetic marketplace.
Diabetic ulcers are responsible for approximately 60,000 limb amputations each year.
The average cost for each primary amputation is $40,563. This represents a $2.4 billion
annual cost to the American healthcare system.
A company spokesman said, "Carrington's Carrasyn®; Hydrogel Wound
Dressing was the first on the market and is the current market leader. We expect the DiaB
Gel and support products to be well received in this segment of the wound care
market."
Some of the above statements about Carrington's plans for the DiaB
line are forward-looking. Size of the diabetic market is based on outside sources and may
vary. Factors which may bear on these statements include but are not limited to the
following: subsequent changes in plans by the company's management; developments in the
treatment protocols; acceptance of products; third party licensing; changes in industry
trends; actions of the company's competitors; changes in the aging population base; and, a
number of other factors and risks described from time to time in the company's reports
filed with the Securities & Exchange Commission, including the Form 10-Q for the
quarter ended September 30, 1996.
Carrington Laboratories, Inc., is an emerging research-based pharmaceutical and medical
device company engaged in developing complex carbohydrate-based therapeutics and oral
