During the 1960's much attention was given to feeding the world's malnourished peoples. Protein deficiencies were correctly seen as the most extensive of the feeding problems. Conversion of underutilized species of fish to affordable, easily used protein supplements promised the best solution to malnutrition -- with one condition. To be useable to malnourished people with compromised enzymatic (digestion) systems, the protein needed to be pre-digested.

You see, proteins are composed of long chains of amino acids, connected to one another by strong chemical bonds. The body breaks these bonds during digestion into single amino acids and small chains of amino acids known as peptides. These are the end products of protein digestion that are reabsorbed and provide benefit to the body.

Because malnourished people have impaired or even non-functioning digestive systems, attempts to provide protein to them required pre-digestion. But pre-digest how? Unlinking bound amino acids without destroying their integrity was the problem. Several chemical means are available but only partially succeed in preparing useable pre-digested protein. The chemical processes denature the protein making it more difficult for the body to use.

In 1954, a scientist in South America accidentally discovered a marine organism that had the ability to digest proteins without the aid of harsh chemical or physical treatments. Remarkably, the process resulted in pre-digested product that is almost totally absorbed and assimilated by the body. By the late 1960's, the scientist had fully developed the system to produce a wonderful fish protein concentrate of exceptional character.

Unfortunately, costs and politics prevented the subsequent years of research and effort poured into this project from ever being used to feed the world's hungry people. Fortunately, the work did not end with the government ventures world-wide and today we can offer you the fruits of that effort as SEACURE.
