LARGO, Fla. (August 2, 1996) -- Smith & Nephew
United, a leading skin and wound care product
manufacturer, introduces AlgiSite* Alginate Wound Dressing, the high absorption, cost-effective
alginate dressing.
Using the B.P. absorbency testing method,
laboratory tests show that AlgiSite provides 69% more
alginate per dressing than Kaltostat(R) and 71% more
than Sorbsan(tm). The tests also showed, based upon
equivalent-sized dressings, that AlgiSite is 61% more
absorbent than Kaltostat and 99% more absorbent than
Sorbsan. Ten samples of each product were weighed
dry, then immersed in solution and weighed saturated.
Absorbency was calculated and expressed in grams
absorbed per gram of dressing.
AlgiSite conforms easily to the wound bed,
providing maximum absorption while creating and
maintaining a moist wound environment that enables
epithelial cells to migrate freely across the surface
of the wound and promotes gaseous exchange. In
addition, AlgiSite can be cut to shape or folded into
the wound bed, thereby preventing lateral wicking of
exudate and reducing the risk of maceration.
AlgiSite stays together upon removal, making
dressing changes easier and faster. It is recommended
for the management of full- and partial- thickness
wounds.
