Bandage System - Smith & Nephew United, Inc. introduces Profore, the 4 - layer bandage system for the treatment of venous leg ulcers. Profore consists of a wound - contact layer and 4 carefully selected bandages. The contact layer maintains moist wound conditions, protects the wound bed from the absorbent layers, and efficiently distributes excess exudate to the next layers of the system. The first bandage provides absorption and pads the bony prominences to prepare the leg for compression. Layer 2 provides additional exudate management capacity, while the short-stretch characteristics work with the calf muscle pump. Two long-stretch compression bandages work together to apply the compression required to reduce the effects of venous hypertension and improve circulation to the ulcer necessary for healing.
